The Desiderata is a poem written by Max Ehrman in the 1920s. I couldn’t decide on any one line, so I decided to get the title on my left wrist instead.
The poem is basically a guide on life (‘be gentle with yourself; you are a child of the universe’), and it reminds me not to be to harsh on myself. I work in the service industry many, many hours a week, so this is also a much needed reminder not to kill my pain in the ass customers (‘as far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons’).
My parents have had a copy in their kitchen for years, and I used to read it every morning before school. They gave me a framed copy for my birthday, so now I can read it whenever I want.
